A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mangal Foundation, on Sunday, commenced free glaucoma surgeries for vulnerable people across Katsina State.

Speaking during the commencement of the exercise at Katsina Eye Clinic, a member of the foundation’s Board of Trustees, Mr Hussaini Kabir, said the gesture was part of their corporate social responsibilities.

According to him, over 500 patients with various eye problems were screened to benefit from the gesture.

Kabir said that some of the patients were given free treatment and drugs, while some of them who required medical glasses were given.

Kabir said, “Those patients that need glaucoma surgery, we referred them to a series of investigations.

“In our office, we used to register people with such health problems, any time the exercise commenced, we call them.

peaking to newsmen, some of the patients expressed appreciation for the gesture and called on other wealthy individuals, government and private organisations to emulate the foundation.
